I grew up in a fairly rough part of London. People generally weren’t bad, but morality was shaped by circumstance and experience rather than a sense of right and wrong. It was hard to find positive role models, and it was all too easy – in fact almost inevitable – to walk on the wrong path. I was lucky, but a lot of my friends weren’t.

We label and dismiss so many kids who, partly because of this pigeonholing, have no opportunity to be anything but how we imagine them to be. In Little Shit I wanted to show the child beyond our preconceptions.
